Grids & Layout Research

Rule of thirds

The idea of the rule of thirds is that the page is divided into 9 with lines. There is 4 intersections in the centre of the page, The idea is that these are the focal points of the photograph of art work so when ever creating your photography this will help create balance with the photograph. Here is some examples below.

This example shows how simple it can be to use, It puts the focus on one item in the photography. This can be done with other objects in one image, As shown below with this image of a young girl it shows that you can see that the eyes are on the focal points. This is something that is very common as eyes are very personal thing and its good to have this as the focal point of the image.

This is actually a really good device to use and is becoming pretty popular. As you can see below it is used quite a lot and even used in popular photography apps like Instagram.

This is something I will definitely use for my photography for this piece and also for my double page spreads themselves. I want to get the perfect layout in my photography and final, I also want to insure that the focus is in exactly the correct places. This research has definitely been effective as I will now insure I apply this to my photography to gain a more solid understanding of how it will communicate to the audience.
