Cultural Capital

The term cultural capital refers to non-financial social assets that promote social mobility beyond economic means. Examples can include education, intellect, style of speech, dress, or physical appearance.

This makes me initially think about the way the mods dress, This is a very important asset when it comes to mods is there style.
Although culture capital is not financial I think it is important to remember that usually mods where differentiated from rockers as they did not have as much money there for had cheaper scooters rather than Harley Davidson bikes. This was usually because they were slightly younger than the rockers, I feel they fought this by insuring they look wealthy in the fashion they choose to wear, they were a lot of Italian suits and to keep them clean whilst tinkering with there vespas etc.

They dressed smart with a suit, collar and usually had the latest hair styles and fashions. They would dress “modern” at the time therefore they looks smarter and less rebellious.
They are always very popular with the ladies as they are dressed smart and gives them a advantage on the rockers as they wore leather jackets and look more sinister, they weren’t dressed particularly smartly and also I feel it is quite intimidating in society to see a young man in a leather jacket on a large and fast motorbike.
Having done some research a lot of people blamed the rockers for the rivalry between them and the mods and I feel this is because they are all together more intimidating and don’t look as smart and more approachable to the general public.

When it comes to education and intellect, its hard to pinpoint them as a group as it was such a large group of people all from different walks of life that came together as the mod subculture, therefore they would have all come from very different families and backgrounds although some of them would have come from very privileged backgrounds and possibly had a very good education and some will have come from very unfortunate circumstances, Mods are very large subculture from this time and very different types of people. This makes it very hard to pinpoint one education or intellectual stereotype for this group.
